Pear Rust in Ohio?

We are all used to seeing cedar apple rust, cedar hawthorn rust and cedar quince rust fungi on their dual hosts of junipers and Rosaceous hosts such as apple, crabapple, the occasional quince, and perhaps serviceberry in Ohio. The report, “Core Values — Why American Companies are Moving Downtown,” tracked nearly 500 companies that have moved or expanded in downtowns in the last five years. Those businesses covered a wide range of industries, from professional, scientific and technical services to information, finance, insurance, manufacturing and retail.

Marketers like to concentrate their attentions on the 18-35 year old Millennial demographic, but the Boomers continue to wield a lot of economic and (via lobbying efforts by AARP) political clout. Although they are aging, the Baby Boomers are not going away quietly.

As they’ve done in the first two week-long sessions, the city and its team of consultants will provide maps, case studies from other cities, and lots of data about all forms of transportation in the city.

Columbus Named 15th Hottest Real Estate Market in US

If you’ve bought a home (or attempted to buy a home) in recent months, then you’ve probably already realized that the local housing market has heated back up quite a bit here in Central Ohio. Realtor.com confirmed that in a recent evaluation of the top housing markets in the US, where Columbus clocked in at number 15 on the list. The analysis on home sale data from June shows that national median list pricing is up 7% from 2014, and median days on market is down 7% from 2014.

Census: Columbus Ranked 13th Fastest Growing US City

The US Census Bureau released initial estimates for the period running between July 2013 and July 2014 earlier this year, which showed the Columbus Metropolitan Area gaining 25,504 people and Franklin County gaining 17,559 people. Updated numbers released today for that same time period show the City of Columbus proper gaining 12,421 people, making it the 13th fastest growing city in the US.

Columbus is growing. Quickly.

The purchase has been made and the trees are in the ground.  You may ask, "What is the next step?"  In addition to immediate water and maintenance  practices to deal with broken, rubbing or misshapen branches, the next five years is very important for both the establishment and training of the shape of the tree to come.
