The city’s Connect Columbus initiative continues this week with a third round of workshops designed togenerate discussion about driving, walking, biking and riding in Columbus. As they’ve done in the first two week-long sessions, the city and its team of consultants will provide maps, case studies from other cities, and lots of data about all forms of transportation in the city.

Port Columbus passenger traffic at its highest in 6 years

The number of passengers using Port Columbus totaled 590,414 in July, a 6.8 percent increase from a year ago and the highest monthly total since 2008, according to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

Next Steps taken to Continue Evaluation of Columbus-to-Chicago Rail

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) along with the City of Columbus and City of Marysville jointly announced today that they will collectively be continuing with the necessary steps to evaluate the feasibility of the Columbus-to-Chicago high speed passenger rail line that was proposed last summer.

Public Transit Ridership at Highest Levels in Nearly 60 Years

The renewed interest in public transit ridership is something often discussed on Columbus Underground as a trend for millennials and urban dwellers that continue to relocate to walkable urban neighborhoods where transit systems are easiest to use. Yesterday, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) released new ridership numbers that show that this trend is on the rise all across the US in a very significant way.

More Parking Meters Added to High Street Downtown

Another set of parking meters were added to High Street late last week on the west side of block between Gay Street and Long Street. The area was previously home to a busy south-bound COTA bus stop located mid-block that was eliminated recently in a move to speed up bus service. SEE MORE

COTA Considering Complete Redesign of Bus Network

Under the plan, more than twice as many residents would be within a quarter-mile of a high-frequency bus line (meaning a bus arrives every fifteen minutes, seven days a week). More job centers would also be within a quarter-mile of frequent service – an increase of over 60% compared to the present network.

This is neat. For me a COTA Bus is 6 houses away. The #4 bus takes me downtown in about 15 minutes. The the CBUS Circulator is available to go anywhere: The cultural Arts center, the brewery district or a lunch out. All without worry about parking or traffic.
