Proposed 5-story Clintonville building to grow with added land

The five-story building with apartments and stores proposed for the heart of Clintonville is growing.

Northstar Realty is in contract to acquire the former Clintonville Electric site, giving the company control of the west side of N. High Street between W. North Broadway and Brighton Road. That gives the developer more room to expand the project to 66 apartments, from 60, said Jackson Reynolds, Northstar’s zoning attorney.

Dough Mama was one of the newcomers in our Best Bites: Bakeries event back in February, but that didn’t stop Perrie Wilkof from wowing the crowds with her Maple Bourbon Pecan Mini Pies (voted 3rd favorite dessert that night). In fact, her home-based business has done so well since launching back in September, that she’s already making the next step forward into becoming a brick-and-mortar business in Clintonville.

In August, local developer Kyle Katz announced plans to replace their family-owned property in Clintonville that formerly housed the now-closed Olympic Pool with a four-story 152-unit mixed-use apartment project. The plan faced some neighborhood opposition that thought that the development would cause a negative impact to the area, and it was officially placed “on hold” in October.

Today, Katz has unveiled an updated design for the development, that would reduce the number of apartment units to 115, the amount of commercial retail space from 19,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet and would increase the number of parking spaces to meet 93% of the recommended allotment based on site use.

6-1-Pho, offering Vietnamese-style street food, is opening July 1 in Clintonville.

The restaurant will take over roughly 1,800 square feet of space at 4368 N. High St., at the northeast corner of High Street and Henderson Road.

Lisa Bui, who owns 6-1-Pho with her husband Ian Capotosta, said the setup is much like Chipotle: customers can choose a rice bowl, soup or banh mi, a Vietnamese-style sub, and choose a protein, vegetables and other fresh ingredients.

6-1-Pho gets its name from the Columbus area code, 614.
