New Affordable Housing (With a Twist) Coming to Near East Side

Construction is underway on a trio of new buildings that will bring 18 apartments and 10 townhomes to North 17th Street on the Near East Side. Applications are now being accepted for potential tenants of the new buildings, who will be part of an innovative program meant to provide affordable housing and other services to parents working toward a college degree.See Story Here

Proposed 5-story Clintonville building to grow with added land

The five-story building with apartments and stores proposed for the heart of Clintonville is growing.

Northstar Realty is in contract to acquire the former Clintonville Electric site, giving the company control of the west side of N. High Street between W. North Broadway and Brighton Road. That gives the developer more room to expand the project to 66 apartments, from 60, said Jackson Reynolds, Northstar’s zoning attorney.

More steps are being taken in plans to build a high-speed train connecting Columbus to Chicago.

 The 300-mile railway would make stops at 9 cities along the route from Columbus to Chicago, the release said.

Let’s not pronounce sprawl dead just yet.  Compared at least to the last five years, things might even get a little worse before they get better.  But the resurgence in strong- and (in some cases) mid-market city living is real, and downtown living, working, and shopping displaces what would otherwise be sprawl.

Columbus was bested on the list only by Augusta GA, Fayetteville NC, Atlanta, Jacksonville FL, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Little Rock.
