Old Homes and Unexpected Surprises !

We live in Clintonville in a home built in 1928. We are only the 3rd or 4th owner of the property. Over the past 20 years we have owned the home we have experienced the gamut of "Uncle Joe did that" believe me the list of repairs is extensive and sometimes befuddling. We took out a large maple recently that was probably 50-70 years old. It had been struck by lightening at least twice in the years we have lived here and finally last year it died completely. Two of the large "Y" branches had a 5/8" inch cable about 20 feet off the ground that had been embedded decades ago. We thought once we cut those and sawed around the cables we were home free. Hah ! See Photo. There are two more bolts  holding the trunk together. Rather than cut the tree down 50 years ago someone drilled the tree and inserted bolts (Photo - that's a normal ruler for scale) . It did a pretty good job on our chain saw.
